Product Description

Composition:

Each ampoule of 1ml contains Vitamin B12 0.5mg

Indications and Usage:

Cyanocobalamin is indicated for the treatment of pernicious anemia ( due to lack or inhibition of intrinsic factor) and for prevention and treatment of vitamin B12 deficiency (due to malabsorption which may be associated with the confitions of pernicious anemia, gastrointestinal pathology, dysfunction or surgery, including gluten enteropathy or sprue, small bowel bacteria overgrowth, total or partial gastrectomy; fish tapeworn infestation; malignancy of pancreas or bowel and folic acid deficiency).

It helps the body use fats and carbohydrates for energy, assists it in making new proteins, and is also important for the production of normal cells, nerves, blood and DNA.

Most preople get enough cyanocobalamin in their diet, but a deficiency may occur in certain health conditions (e.g. poor nutrition, stomach/intestinal problems, infection, cancer, etc.). Serious Vitamin B12 deficiency may result in anemia, stomach problems and nerve damage.

Dosage and Administration:

Aviod using the intravenous route. Use of this product intravenously will result in almost all of the vitamin being lost in the urine.

In pernicious anemia, parenteral Vitamin B12  is the recommended treatment. A dose of 1000 mcg daily for 6 to 7 days should be  administrered by intramuscular or deep subcutaeneous injection. If there is clinical improvement, the same amount amy be given on alternate days for seven doses, then every 3 to 4 days for another 2 to 3 weeks.

By this time hematologic values should have become normal. This regimen should be followed by 1000 mcg monthly for life. Folic acid should be administered concomitantly if needed.

For the prophylaxis of anemia associated with Vitamin B12 deficiency resulting from gastrectomy or malabsorption syndromes, cyanocobalamin may be givern in doses of 250 to 1000 micrograms intramuscularly each month.

Storage condition: Store below 25ºC.
