COMPOSITION
Each 1ml of solution contains 2.0% w/v of Lidocaine Hydrochloride B.P.
PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION
Antiarrhythmic
IDICATIONS
Lidocaine is a local anaesthetic of the amide group. The injectable form has a wide range of applications for nerve blockade. It can be used by percutaneous infiltration; to block a major nerve plexus such as the brachial; for epidural anaesthesia; for intravenous regional analgesia.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS
Lidocaine is contraindicaed in patients with:
- Complete heart block
- Hypovolaemia
DOSAGE AND DIRECTION FOR USE
Total dose that can be used
- Maximum dose of lidocaine (plain, without vasoconstrictor) is 4.5mg/kg ( not to exceed 300mg)
- Example patient weight -10kg
- Total dose that can be used for this patirent = 4.5mg/kg* 10kg=45mg
SIDE-EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
- twitching, tremors, seizure (convulsions);
- a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out;
- slow heart rate, weak pulse, weak or shallow breathing;
- sudden feeling of warmth with muscles stiffness and pain;
- dark urine;
KNOWN SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSAGE AND PARTICULARS OF ITS TREATMENTS
Effects on the cardiovascular system may be seen in severe cases. Hypotension, bradycardia, arrhythmia and cardiac arrest may occur as a result of high systemic concentrations, with potentially fatal outcome.
